Virginia Supreme Court Rejects Virginia Map Allegedly Drawn During “Bring Your Kid to Work Day”

Richmond, VA — The Virginia Supreme Court blocked a newly proposed congressional district map Thursday after investigators determined several district boundaries may have been drawn during an unofficial “Bring Your Kid to Work Day” event inside the state legislature earlier this spring.

The ruling came after court analysts reviewing the submission noted that portions of the map appeared to “ignore recognizable geographic logic entirely” while several districts contained abrupt zig-zag patterns consistent with “a child becoming distracted midway through an activity.”

According to court documents, suspicion first emerged when one district line briefly followed the exact outline of a dinosaur.

“We initially believed it was a data-layer issue,” said one court staffer familiar with the review process. “Then someone noticed what appeared to be a smiley face near Roanoke.”

The smiley face was confirmed.

State officials denied intentional wrongdoing but acknowledged that multiple lawmakers had children present in the building during portions of the drafting process.

“One of the kids was coloring nearby while discussions were taking place,” said a legislative aide. “Nobody is saying she physically drew District 7. We’re simply saying there is currently no evidence proving she didn’t.”

The court ruling specifically cited what it described as “deeply concerning irregularities,” including one district that briefly crossed itself twice before ending near a Bass Pro Shops parking lot for reasons still unknown.

Another district reportedly included a handwritten note reading “this part gets votes probably.”

The handwriting analysis remains ongoing.

Political analysts reviewing the rejected map described it as “aggressively creative” and “possessing a confidence level rarely seen outside elementary school art projects.”

“It had energy,” said one redistricting expert. “The problem is that constitutional law generally requires slightly more than energy.”

Sources inside the legislature confirmed that lawmakers became aware of potential issues after one representative proudly displayed the draft during a committee meeting and was immediately asked why portions of northern Virginia appeared to have been outlined using glitter pen.

Witnesses described a long silence.

One lawmaker eventually asked, very carefully, whether the glitter had “any legal significance.”

It does not.

The Virginia Supreme Court ultimately ruled the map unconstitutional, though the opinion stopped short of assigning direct blame to any individual child.

At press time, officials were reportedly developing a replacement map while quietly removing a mini-box of crayons from a conference room evidence bag.
